In Their Own Words: Lance Clyde

I do not relish any increase in taxation, but investing in the future of our children is a wise choice. A school district that only has enough funds to provide a basic education will only produce students smart enough to pass minimum standards. It will not provide opportunities for students to excel, allowing them to compete in an increasingly complex world.

Every aspect of our community benefits from the intelligent contributions of those who live here. I believe this is an exponential relationship, and reverberates through all aspects of a community. This principle is most easily observed in property values. People preferentially choose to live where the best school districts are located.

The legislators in Arizona have refused to allocate moneys that the voters of Arizona supported on two different occasions. This resulted in TVUSD necessarily approving a 15% Maintenance and Operations Override. The override funds many of the things that keep TVUSD schools among the best in Tucson. These funds are used for advanced placement classes, career and technical education, orchestra, and other specialists.

Voting in favor of proposition 466 is a logical choice that will cost us something now but will pay many dividends into the future.

In Their Words is a series in which we share letters written in support of the Budget Override and Bond ballot measures. These letters will appear in the Voter Information Packet provided by Pima County to voters. We will also include original missives by members of the Tanque Verde community.
