Kaitlyn & Taylor Our names are Taylor, Kaitlyn, and Christopher, and we are jointly penning this brief letter to you to ask for your support of Proposition 466 in this upcoming voting cycle. As recent graduates from Tanque Verde High School, we understand the importance of funding for our school activities, inside and outside of the classroom. The extracurricular activities we have been able to participate in, such as marching band, student government, and athletics (to name a few), have shaped us into well-rounded individuals. These activities have also given us leadership experience and professional skills that will allow us to succeed in college and in our future careers. Attending school in the Tanque Verde Unified School District (TVUSD) has influenced us to be the high-achieving students we are today, not only because of the rigorous academics offered, but also because of the after-school organizations that strengthened our overall education. Our schools show endless s

Why a Bond vs. Capital Override?

Image
Recently, we received a question..."Why is TVUSD pursuing a bond instead of a capital override, when the override option doesn't carry interest and fees?" The capital assessment performed this past Spring identified several million dollars in needs, most immediate include $1M in buses, $2M in technology, and $12M in construction projects. A capital override* would bring in about $600,000 per year for five years, then reduce by a 1/3 in year six and 2/3 in year seven; funding which must be utilized in the year it is scheduled. This financing method doesn't give TVUSD the ability to take on high expense projects such as the ones identified as needing immediate attention. Stretching construction projects over multiple years would impact project scope due to yearly increases in construction costs. The bond financing option allows TVUSD to schedule and complete many of those construction projects in one to two years, maximizing the amount of work that

An old AC unit on TVUSD campus  I stand in strong support of Proposition 467, a proposed bond to benefit Tanque Verde Unified School District (TVUSD). I can attest to the fact that in Arizona, State funding for new capital projects and current school maintenance has been significantly reduced during the past ten years, amounting to statewide cuts of more than $2.3 billion. For TVUSD, this has resulted in over $4.4 million in cuts. These cuts have led to a backlog of maintenance on buildings with leaking roofs, and equipment such as old and malfunctioning air conditioners. In addition, TVUSD has been forced to utilize outdated structures for some classrooms. It is of the utmost importance that students today graduate with the skills needed to be contributors to our community and more broadly our State. A YES vote on Proposition 467 will ensure that Tanque  Verde Unified School District has the necessary funds to provide adequate facilities and structures to keep st

Dear Tanque Verde Neighbor, We chose to live in the Tanque Verde Valley 22 years ago because of its outstanding schools. That excellence continues today in our district. We have the opportunity to support this tradition in the upcoming election by voting ‘yes’ for Proposition 446. Proposition 446 allows our district to continue programs that provide our children with a well-rounded education that makes us unique and academically successful. Without override funding, Nurses, Art, Music, P.E. and Library programs will be in jeopardy. Despite huge cuts in state funding, TVUSD has a strong gifted program, AP classes, sports activities and CTE programs, all of which enrich our students’ educational experience. TVUSD is fiscally responsible, spending more money in the classroom than any other district in Pima County. Most importantly, a ‘yes’ vote for the override will NOT increase taxes. TVUSD needs your support to continue to prepare our children to be successful, car
